"I SHOULD go to the gym, but..."

Yes, we all "should" exercise. We "should" spend time strength training and getting our heart rate up a few times a week. But life happens, right? You’re busy, you’re tired, and sometimes it feels like the gym is just another thing on your endless to-do list.

Here’s the thing, folks: skipping it today, or this week, or this month—what does that look like down the road? What’s the alternative if you don’t make the time now?

The Real Cost of Skipping the Gym

You might think, *“I’m fine, I’ll get to it later.”* But every time you put off exercise, you’re not just giving up on today’s workout. You’re setting yourself up for the long-term consequences, and they aren’t pretty.

  • Muscle loss: As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass, making everyday movements harder. Without consistent strength training, you’re speeding up that process.
  • Joint pain and stiffness: The less you move, the stiffer your body gets. Suddenly, it’s not just about skipping the gym—it’s about struggling to bend down, pick something up, or climb stairs pain-free.
  • Lower energy: Skipping workouts might feel like you’re saving energy now, but you’re actually depleting it long-term. Regular exercise boosts your energy levels, so you’re not dragging through your day.
  • Chronic health problems: Heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure—they’re all linked to a sedentary lifestyle and low muscle mass. Skipping the gym isn’t just about weight; it’s about your long-term health.

It’s Not About the Gym, It’s About Your Life

Sure, exercise can feel like a chore sometimes. But it’s not about "having to work out", it’s about investing in a better future for yourself. The hours you put in now mean fewer hours dealing with pain, discomfort, or health issues later.

Ask yourself: What’s life like 10, 20 years down the road if you don’t take care of your body now? Can you move freely? Enjoy your favorite activities? Live independantly? Chase after your kids or grandkids? The gym might seem like an inconvenience today, but it’s nothing compared to the inconvenience of poor health in the future.

The truth is, nobody wakes up one day suddenly wishing they’d spent less time taking care of their body. It’s easy to push it aside now, but the cost is so much higher when you’re forced to deal with the consequences down the line. The alternative to skipping the gym isn’t just losing strength—it’s losing the ability to live the life you want to live.

So yeah, we "should" all go to the gym. Not because it’s a box to check off, but because the alternative just isn’t worth it.
