The holidays are magical, full of joy, connection, and celebration… but let’s be real. They can also feel like too much. Packed schedules, endless to-do lists, shopping, cooking, wrapping—it’s enough to make anyone want to hibernate.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. You don’t have to do it all. Here are five steps to help you stress less and enjoy more this season.

1. Set Priorities

What really matters to you during the holidays? Seriously, stop and think: What actually brings you joy? Is it baking cookies with your kids? Watching cheesy holiday movies in your PJs? A quiet evening with close friends?

Focus on those things and let go of the rest. If it doesn’t light you up or align with your priorities, it’s okay to skip it.

2. Plan Ahead

A little planning goes a long way. Grab a calendar and map out your events, meals, and to-dos. Break big tasks into smaller, manageable ones, like setting a specific day for gift wrapping or grocery shopping.

When you’re not flying by the seat of your pants, it’s so much easier to stay calm and actually enjoy the season.

3. Delegate and Say No

Guess what? You’re not Santa, and you don’t have to do it all. Let other people help—assign tasks like decorating, cooking, or picking up groceries.

And here’s the hard part: start saying no. If an invitation or activity feels like too much, politely decline. Your time and energy are precious, and protecting them is key to surviving (and thriving) during the holidays.

4. Simplify Gift-Giving

Gift-giving doesn’t have to be a full-contact sport. Instead of overthinking every present, go for thoughtful but simple options: gift cards, or experiences (think tickets to a show or a fun class). Having your family send you a wish list is an easy way to get exactly what they want!

Want to cut back even more? Suggest a drawing names in big families or a white elephant gift exchange!

5. Prioritize Self-Care

Yes, you’re busy. But you can’t pour from an empty cup, so take care of yourself. Whether it’s a quick workout, a long walk, or even just 10 minutes of quiet in your warm car while out running errands—make time to recharge.

And don’t forget the basics! Hydrate, eat good food, and get some sleep. Your body will thank you.

The holidays don’t have to be picture-perfect to be meaningful. Let go of the pressure to do everything, and focus on what makes you and your loved ones happy.

By setting boundaries, simplifying where you can, and prioritizing the stuff that matters, you can have a holiday season that’s joyful, not stressful.

Say no, protect your peace, and make this your best holiday yet!
